What is Kapla?

KAPLA Story

KAPLA is a construction game made of precision-cut wooden planks, which relies on its singular plank and gravity alone, making it a perfect fit for anyone 2 years and older.

Its name stands for “KAbouter PLAnkjes,” which means “Gnome Planks” in Dutch. Invented in 1987 by Tom van der Bruggen during its stay in France, KAPLA has since become a beloved tool for creativity and imagination across the world.

Proportions of Kapla planks are based on the progression of odd number 1, 3, 5, 15.

What makes KAPLA unique?

Uniform Design

Each Kapla plank has the exact same dimensions: a precise ratio of 1:3:5:15. This consistency allows builders to create complex and stable structures without additional connectors or adhesives.

Natural Material

Kapla planks are made of 100% pine wood, responsibly sourced and eco-friendly, giving them a smooth texture and a lightweight yet durable quality.

Creative Freedom

Kapla encourages open-ended play. With no instructions or pre-designed kits, users are free to design anything from simple towers to intricate architectural structures.

Why KAPLA?

Kapla stimulates a variety of skills, making it a great tool for both learning and entertainment:

Fine Motor Skills: Handling the planks improves hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

STEM Learning: Experimenting with balance, gravity, and geometry develops critical thinking.
